Guy of the Week

We first thought we were going to profile Guy of the Week RODDY OUANO as our industry insider. But we couldn’t deny Roddy’s cool style and decided he should be featured here. A long-time Style Spy friend - he produces our TV segments on the NovusTV channel - Roddy is always rockin’ somethin’ cool. Ladies, meet our pal Roddy.
Wearing… Dress shirt by APC, jeans by Earnest Sewn, basic v-neck is American Apparel and shoes are by Rachel Comey.
Style notes… Casual, comfortable with a touch of class.
Top three wardrobe essentials…
1. Basic t-shirts, v-neck or crew. Black, grey and white.
2. Dress shirts I can wear casual or dressy.
3. A sharp pair of shoes.
Top grooming secret… Bumble & Bumble.
Splurge on/save on… I tend to buy expensive items that will last me a long time such as shoes and dress shirts and mix and match that with cheaper basics such as tee shirts and jeans.
Wish guys would stop wearing… Toques in the summer.
Top shops… Jonathan & Olivia and Eugene Choo.
What intrigues you most about personal style… Personal style is what defines you. Whether you like to wear loud colors or are all black, it’s all good if that’s who you are.
Fashion tips for guys… Just be comfortable and confident in what you wear.

What to Wear: Patio Perfect

Letilza Heels $135 CAD, Aldo
Whimsy Print Tote II $19.80, Forever 21
Strapless D-Ring Dress $119 USD, Bebe
While Montreal takes the cake for having the most patios on it’s fashion streets, Vancouver has become pretty impressive, too. Wear a chic strapless like this one from Bebe and get perfectly sun-kissed while tasting appy’s, sipping on refreshing blackberry mojitos, and catching up on the latest gossip. That is the perfect day for me. Cheers!
Nu (pictured above)
Right on the water, this patio over looks False Creek and is the place to be for Sunday Jazz Brunch with Juno Nominee Melody Diachun.

Chill Wiston
In trendy Gastown, this patio fav will serve you up tasty items like tuna tartare and truffle poutine.

Joe Fortes
Need a much needed rest from shopping? Located just off Robson, you will fall in love with it’s spacious roof top patio.

Rowan Sky

Always on the look out for a new shoe boutique, I was more than a little excited to find Rowan Sky. Great shoes, plus amazing clothes to pair them with - what more could a girl ask for? I can’t wait to stock up on some Repettos, which are hands down my favourite flats in the whole entire world! (Can you tell I’m a little excited?)
Most popular brands… In Shoes: we got Alexander Mcqueen collaboration with Puma (men and women), Miss Sixty and Energie for men. And we’ve got a few really awesome brands coming in for shoes as well. Such as; Chie Mihara, Onitsuka Tiger, Repetto from Paris.
Style notes… Rowan Sky is a collaboration of apparel, footwear, & accessories featured in a setting of engineered wood and reclaimed displays which are entirely modular. Our goal is to provide fashion forward, but wearable apparel, footwear, hosiery, belts and accessories. Our product by definition has a European flavor, but still supports a percentage of Canadian designers. Some of which is bonafide “Made in Canada”.
Coveting… If you ask me, Matinique summer jacket for men, paired with a smart Tee of Super Superficial, and a Mcqueen Puma shoe will give a summer look that will be the envy of all mankind. On the other hand, a sexy Sessun dress paired with hot Italian Miss Sixty heels, will send any guy head over heels.

Lust Worthy: Jumping For Joy

Okay, I’ll admit. I was the first to ban the wearing of jumpsuits. I laughed out loud at them. I told everyone they would never catch on (mostly because they seemed impossibly complicated during any sort of bathroom break). And while they still remain impossibly complicated during said occasion, last week while I was making up my very late summer wish list, a pair of new shorts just didn’t feel right. No longer does the short seem chic to me. In fact, I have yet to wear any of my many pairs this summer. Instead, the only thing on my list is The Jumpsuit. It just seems so easy, throw it on and you’re magically done. No thinking required. And yet it strikes the perfect balance between being dressed up… and not. Which, as we all know, is the only way one can dress in this summer time heat.
On my wish list: 3.1 Phillip Lim Accordian Neck Jumpsuit $450 CAD
3.1 Phillip Lim is available at Holt Renfrew
